About

This is not your average music production company.
Most of us come to a point in our lives when we feel lost and the beaten path seems to disappear. We don't know where to go next, and we feel like we've failed, somehow.
When I hit that point, I just kept on walking.
No longer satisfied with the usual ways of making a living in the music business, I decided that it was time to start something new.
Aegis Musicworks is the result of that epiphany. It's dedicated to protecting what's most sacred in music: free expression.
Join me in taking pride in our music.

Testimonials
What people are saying about Dr. Z's work...
Tom Riccobono - Interlochen Arts Academy
"Dr. Zegiel performed a master class for the Low Brass studio at the Interlochen Arts Academy to acclaim. Dr. Z is a superior performance artist and teacher and the students were inspired and gained much from his master class...I would recommend Evan to any group of aspiring artists as a guest clinician. "
Drake Davis - Clipboards, Lake Mosaic
"What I really liked about working with Dr. Z was that he trusted my ability and gave me space to not only learn the material, but also put my own twist on a section if I was feeling something. I can honestly say that having to learn [his] material made me a much more versatile drummer than I was before. Some of the drum parts forced me to approach [the kit] in different ways...It unlocked a whole entire realm of possibilities I can now experiment with in my own projects.
Overall, my experience working with Evan has been a very enjoyable one. He's very chill and easy to get along with.
I would recommend working with him...you'll have a great time!"
Dr. Jerry Young - University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (Emeritus)
"I have known Dr. Zegiel for a number of years and...his work in everything he does is superb. When he promises to do something it will be done, and it will be done to the highest possible professional and artistic standards. Dr. Z is easy to work with under all circumstances. He looks at all situations clearly both artistically and technically, and his judgement is very trustworthy. If my estimation of his work seems overly enthusiastic, I can assure you that it is advisedly so."
Dr. Chris Dickey - Washington State University
"Collaborations with Evan were always rewarding. When he taught my students or composed music for me, I always found him to be genuinely engaged in the work he was doing. Evan came on my radar because I knew he was a real 'up and coming' force in the music world, and I found his professional endeavors to be exciting, fresh, and new. His perspectives on brass playing, music performance, composition, and teaching breathe new life into our community!
Evan’s work made a difference to me in that he always led with sincerity and positivity. Nothing ever came off as 'transactional.' Evan was—and continues to be—a source of inspiration and creativity for tubists, composers, and entrepreneurs alike."
The Troubled Euphs
[Ian Lester, Jared Sherman, Drew Leslie]
"The Troubled Euphs (Drew Leslie, Ian Lester, and Jared Sherman) first encountered Evan's music through Evan's increasing popularity as a musician and composer, specifically his compositions for low brass instruments. In late 2023, we decided to commission several composers to write original works for our trio. Evan immediately came to mind in our discussions on who to commission.
Only a few months later, our trio led a consortium in which we commissioned Evan to compose a work for flex low brass trio and fixed media called Escape Velocity. Evan was highly collaborative and helpful throughout the entire process and had a clear vision as to what he wanted to achieve with Escape Velocity.
The end product was masterfully composed and idiomatic to the instrumentation. Furthermore, the backing track was professionally mixed and mastered, resulting in a highly effective and exhilarating composition."
Dr. Ian Lester - Performer, Composer, Educator
"I first got to know Evan and his music through several composition competitions, in which we both found ourselves as finalists or winners. I reached out to Evan after one of these competitions, and inquired about his compositional process, as I was impressed by his piece after listening to it. We've kept in touch ever since, supporting each other's continuing musical journeys in a multitude of ways.
I have always loved the raw energy and emotional clarity in Evan's music. Evan has a fantastic sense of how to convey certain moods and emotions through his music. Evan's music is also innovative. For instance, his ability to fuse classical music and electroacoustic elements with heavy metal in the form of a tuba concerto is something the music world had never seen before."
Nelson Gast, U.S. Coast Guard Band
"Evan is always finding unique solutions to the musical challenges of combining diverse inspirations, often creating works rarely-seen or never-seen elements. A unique staple in the music world."
